• Welcome to Saints Martha and Mary Episcopal Church
  • Why Martha? Why Mary?

Eastertide is just another way of saying the Easter season. "Tide" is an ancient word meaning "to feast." So, the Great Fifty Days of Easter are celebrated as a full season of feasting, and each Sunday of the season is treated as a Sunday of Easter. We once again joyously say our "alleluias."

Why 50 days? Jesus spent 40 days on earth following his resurrection and there were 10 more days before the Day of Pentecost, which means “fiftieth day” in Greek. The Day of Pentecost celebrates when the Holy Spirit descended on the disciples, now empowered to spread the Good News to all the world.

April 19 is the 2nd Sunday of Easter then. The Rev. Faith Perrizo will lead our service of Morning Prayer at 9:30 a.m., followed by a group discussion of the gospel. This service is available on Zoom. Contact us in advance of Sunday to receive the link to this service and join us for a virtual coffee (half) hour following that.
