Eagan area residents and employees of local businesses are invited to mark the beginning of the Lenten season with an “Ashes to Go” event in the parking lot of Ss. Martha & Mary Church in Eagan. The popular drive thru to get ashes observance is back for its 4th straight year. It runs from 5-6 PM this Wednesday, February 17, outside the church at the corner of Lexington and Diffley roads.
“It will be cold, so it will be quick,” says the Rev. Tom Garrison, “but we hear from people how much they appreciate the convenience of getting the sign of the cross placed on their forehead in ashes, and the opportunity to ask a priest for a prayer or blessing.”
Safety protocols are in place and all participants must wear a mask. Drivers will be directed once they enter the parking lot at Martha & Mary at 4180 Lexington Ave. South. Lent is a season of reflection and preparation before the celebrations of Easter. By observing the 40 days of Lent, Christians replicate Jesus Christ's sacrifice and withdrawal into the desert for 40 days. An online service follows at 7 PM. Email webmaster to request the link.
